Coral Cove Pavilion
Coral Cove is what I like to call the wild child of the Auria developments. A luxury bohemian retreat set within the lush, tropical landscape of KwaZulu-Natal. Where the Zululami setting is naturally exotic, our design intention leans into that spirit, drawing on a palette of salmon pinks, aquamarine and jungle green, layered with exquisite marbles, driftwood, coloured glass and animal motifs. It has been one of the most inspiring projects I've worked on for Auria, closer to indulgence than work.
The design language throughout is high-end and unapologetically whimsical, dreamy sea blues, generous travertine, and a colonial sensibility that evokes exploration, as though residents are the first to discover this untamed territory. In the common areas, that spirit takes shape through bold wallpapers, textured wall claddings, and natural materials that ground the space and connect it back to its surrounds. Clarke & Clarke fabrics by artist Emma Shipley bring a playful menagerie into the mix, alongside several bespoke pieces designed specifically for Coral Cove.
Each space carries its own distinct personality. The library favours cane, rattan and handmade ceramics for a tactile, human touch. The craft and bridge rooms are dressed in bright fruit and floral wallpapers, while Café Auria, consistently one of the most loved spaces in any Auria development, features a striking green onyx alongside soft sage, salmon and natural oak. The bar takes a more sophisticated turn, with smoky grey mirror cladding, charcoal-stained oak, deep blue onyx and ochre velvets offering a distinctly evening-appropriate register.
Beyond the aesthetics, every decision is grounded in practicality, from stain-resistant upholstery to the ergonomic and safety considerations refined across five years of working on this specific project with Auria. This is especially true in the Wellness and Care Centres, where a calmer palette of blush pinks and pale blues meets careful attention to lighting, contrast, acoustics and wayfinding, ensuring the design supports residents at every stage without compromising on beauty.
Coral Cove has been a genuine celebration of creativity, and I remain grateful to Auria for the trust and openness that made it possible.
