HOUSE

This is one of those Joburg homes that takes you by surprise. Discreetly tucked away at the end of a long, winding panhandle, behind an unassuming gate, lies a masterclass in minimalist design. The architecture embraces simplicity with purpose—open, airy volumes, seamless transitions between spaces, and a restrained palette that allows form and material to take center stage.

Inside, the design narrative is refined yet expressive. Bespoke furniture adds sculptural interest and warmth, from the curved sofa that softens the living room’s clean lines to bubble armchairs that hover between comfort and art. The dining room is a quiet showstopper, grounded by a handcrafted James Mudge table with its oak three-fold base and gently patinated brass top, surrounded by custom Japandi-style dining chairs—calm, minimal, and timeless.

Upstairs, the main bedroom showcases the same thoughtful approach to space and function. A custom upholstered headboard serves as both focal point and partition, subtly dividing the room to create a walk-in closet behind it. To accommodate the narrow layout, traditional bedside tables were replaced with inset niche shelves, while a slim top ledge houses a discreet pop-up power tower—merging aesthetics with everyday convenience.

Throughout the home, natural materials—timber, stone, linen—are used with intention, and light becomes a design element in its own right. It’s minimalist, yes, but far from spare. This is a home where quiet craftsmanship and smart design choices create a space that feels as effortless as it is elevated.

A heartfelt thank you to our phenomenal client for trusting us with their vision, for embracing bold ideas, and for allowing us the creative freedom to design a home that feels as beautiful as it functions. Projects like this are a true joy.
